Our Family Christmas Memories and Traditions
Christmas is a time for family gatherings filled with Christmas memories and traditions that span generations. Ornaments handed down and new ones made. Recipes that bring back childhood memories. It’s a time of year for reflection. Those of us lucky enough to have homes and families to share them with gather around the table to feast on delicious food. Hopefully, we think of people less fortunate and in some small way contribute to their Christmas.
In our home the decorations spark the memories and although, I’m downsizing on the decorations, I still manage to sprinkle a few fond memories about the house that bring smiles and memories of years past. Here are a few of the ways we celebrate our Christmas memories and traditions.
Even though we are downsizing, the tree still takes center stage. A table top tree can be made much grander by nestling it in a pretty basket all decked out for the holidays.
Instead of the traditional tree skirt, I fill the basket with inexpensive, but sparkly Christmas ornaments. They reflect the lights for a dazzling effect.
Collections are a great way to start Christmas memories and traditions. Every year I gave my son a nutcracker and my daughter an angel. They looked forward to seeing what their new addition would look like every year. My daughter took most of hers when she moved but I still have a few that were left behind. I added some new ones this year on my angel tree that I posted earlier this month.
Our angel collection made our Christmas memories and traditions so sweet. Collections grow each year and are so fun to look at.
The nutcracker collection takes center stage on the mantel. Each year a different soldier gets to stand guard, watching over the stockings filled with gifts.
From traditional soldiers to a golf themed nutcracker.
A rock star themed nutcracker was added to our Christmas memories a few years ago.
We can’t forget Santa! We have several but this guy gets a shelf of his own at Christmas time. Santa takes center stage for Christmas memories and traditions in our house.
Who doesn’t have Frosty in any of their Christmas memories? It just wouldn’t be Christmas without him.
Finally, the stockings. What would Christmas be without them hanging by the fireplace?
I just loved sharing some of my Christmas memories with you. Each year I try to add something new and I will share my Goodwill find in an upcoming post. I would also like to share my Christmas dining room with you and tell you about some of the traditions that center around our table. Christmas holds so many happy memories for my family. We always take the time to remember loved ones lost and do something for people who are having hard times. How do you make Christmas memories? I’d love to hear. Comment below and share your traditions with me.
